FAQ

Questions before you begin

Choosing a counsellor can bring up practical questions as well as personal ones. This page answers some of the things people often ask before getting in touch.

You do not need to know exactly what to ask before making contact.

A starting point

A little clarity can help

Some people arrive at counselling knowing what they want to talk about. Others only know that something feels difficult, heavy or unclear. These questions are here to make the first step feel a little easier.

Counselling and online therapy

I offer person-centred counselling and psychotherapy. This means the work is led by what feels important to you, at your pace, in a calm and accepting space.

Yes. I offer online counselling, so you can attend sessions from a private and comfortable space. You will need a stable internet connection and somewhere you can speak confidentially.

People come to counselling for many different reasons, including anxiety, stress, low mood, self-esteem, identity, relationships, bereavement, life changes, neurodiversity, LGBTQIA+ experiences, and adoption or fostering experiences. Your reason does not need to fit neatly into a category.

No. Many people begin counselling without having the right words for what they are feeling. You can start from wherever you are.

Working with me

I work with adults, children and young people, and people who have experienced adoption or fostering. I welcome clients looking for a warm, person-centred approach.

Person-centred counselling is based on empathy, acceptance and working at the client's pace. It is not about being told what to do. It offers space to explore your experiences, feelings and choices with support.

I'll respond to your enquiry and let you know about availability, next steps and whether the support I offer feels like the right fit. [EDIT HERE: add specific response times here once confirmed.]

You are welcome to get in touch and ask. Getting in touch does not commit you to starting counselling.

Children, young people, adoption and fostering

Yes. I'm qualified to work with children and young people. Sessions are adapted to feel appropriate for the young person's age, needs and circumstances.

Yes. I have additional training to support people who have experienced adoption or fostering. This may include support around identity, belonging, relationships, attachment, change and early life experiences.

Yes. Parents or carers can get in touch on behalf of a child or young person. I'll then explain what information is needed and how the process works.

Confidentiality is important, but there are limits where safety or safeguarding concerns arise. I'll explain this clearly before counselling begins.

Supervision for counsellors

Yes. I offer counselling supervision for counsellors and trainee counsellors. Supervision offers space to reflect on client work, ethical questions, professional development and practitioner wellbeing.

Supervision can be offered online. [EDIT HERE: add any in-person availability here if confirmed.]

I may be able to offer supervision for trainee counsellors, depending on course and placement requirements. Please include any training provider requirements when enquiring.

You can send me a message with a little about your practice, your training stage if relevant, and what you are looking for from supervision.

Practical details

Sessions are 50 minutes long, but longer sessions can be discussed if that is your preference.

Session fees are £70 / €85.

You can get in touch through the website contact form or by email.

Yes, I offer a free 30 minute initial chat to see if we are a good fit for working together.

I currently offer online sessions via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or WhatsApp, or by telephone.

Confidentiality and safety

Yes, what you share in sessions stays private, unless I think you are of harm to yourself, or someone you speak about is in harm. If I do need to break confidentiality, I will try to let you know before hand if possible.

LKC Counselling is not an emergency or crisis service. If you feel at immediate risk or need urgent help, contact emergency services, NHS 111, your GP, or a crisis support service in your area.

I handle personal information carefully and in line with data protection requirements. You can read more in the Privacy Notice.
